Zebra Plant - Aphelandra squarrosa

Zebra Plant is an evergreen, which originates in Central South America. It has dark green leaves with main veins marked with white. There are several varieties mainly compact in character and all bear distinctive yellow flowers.   During Summer, Autumn and early Winter, Zebra Plant  bears terminal pyramids of yellow bracts surrounding yellow flowers. The stems are reddish pink.

Conditions:-   Zebra Plants are best suited as an indoor house plant in Sydney. They like a warm, sunny room, high humidity position with good indirect light at all times.   Zebra Plants will grow outdoors in favourable conditions in a mild climate, but, will not tolerate extreme cold or frost.

Care:-   Zebra Plants should be kept just moist and well drained, with minimal watering during the Winter months. If they are in a pot on a saucer, it is important that the saucer is always dry - if not the water will cause the ends of the Zebra Plant’s leaves to go black, leading to the plant’s death. Use a slow release fertilizer such as Osmocote. Pinch back the stems after flowering.
